august celebrations

Here at Rockton, we like to celebrate all things, big and small, that bring joy to our lives. We thought it would be fun to share our June celebrations with you and hopefully spread the joy around! Here are a few things the Rockton family celebrated this month.

While fall doesn’t officially begin until September, summer is bowing out and autumn is preparing for the stage. Kids have headed back to school and the Halloween decorations and candy are on full display at our local stores. Fall has always been a favorite season of mine. I love that the weather will be getting cooler and the leaves will begin to change color. I’ll also start swapping out my summer clothes for cozy fall gear. Here’s to the opening stages of the “Ber” months: September, October, November, December—bring it on!

We are closing out Summer with one of our traditions – ‘The Great Minnesota Get-Together’ and eating all things fried, pickled or full of sugar.

I think my most celebrated part of August is the beginning of football season! The time before the season where my hopes and dreams have yet to be crushed by 20-year-old millionaires playing a game. Getting to dress my dog up to begrudgingly support the team.

And this time of year always holds a special part in my heart as it was typically when my family would make it to the Outer Banks for the year, which became a second home to me.

I’m soaking up and celebrating some final summer nights at the lake. The Minnesota lake sunsets are amazing, and the evenings are getting cooler as Fall quickly approaches. I really appreciate this time outdoors, knowing that winter will be here all too soon!

For the 4th year in a row, Mark and I have hosted the annual Colorado Entrepreneurs Organization Farm to Table dinner on our farm. Mother Nature always seems to get the final say; this year we experienced strong winds requiring us to wipe dust off our plates before the main course arrived – truly farm to table. This year’s theme was Havana nights, with a live musician, 4 course meal, delicious Palisade peach mojitos, and of course, cigars!

August is my favorite summer month.  Long, warm summer evenings walking the dogs around town, sitting outside on the patio at restaurants is one of my favorite things to do. This year we’ve had a lot of out-of-town family visitors making it especially nice. This past weekend we were able to enjoy a super cool car show, the Hot Rod Rock & Rumble at the Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colorado where hot rod enthusiasts could drag race and participate in the burnout circus competition..  There were bands, food trucks and you could even get a tattoo while there. We didn’t know what to expect when our friends invited us, my husband and son thought it was just a regular car show, so we were very surprised when our friends had a tent right by the burn out area and we got to see all the great cars racing around the track.
